I am coming to see that faith sees the future. Faith treats the present as the past. Faith sees what is to come. Faith sees what God is doing and preparing.
Faith is being certain of things hoped for; sure of things not seen. The very definition implies things that are to come.
This does not make us people who cannot live in the present, or are blindly absent to current realities. On the contrary, faith people are empowered to live successfully in the present because of the hope and reassurance of what God is doing.
A lack of vision for the future will cripple the present. The future will become the present. And God's future is always to be preferred.
Yesterday I had an experience where God showed me something of my future. It was short. It was revelatory. It was powerful. I saw what is to come. And it tasted good.
Sing, o barren woman, you who never bore a child, burst into song, shout for joy. Enlarge the place of your tent. Stretch your tent curtains wide. Do not hold back. Lengthen your cords. Strengthen your stakes.
The true and proper test of faith is this: Can you rejoice in what you see? Can you rejoice as if it is certain? If you cannot wait patiently and with joy, then you are not in faith.
In this way, faith pulls the future into the present. Faith makes us rejoice as if it were happening to us already.
Trust your God. Have faith in your God. He has gone before you. He has gone ahead of you. He has speculated plans of joy and hope for you. He is asking you to believe in them. If you do, it will convert His speculation into reality.
Has He not said in Psalm 85:13 "Righteousness goes before Him and prepares the way for His steps"?
And has He not said in Psalm 89:14 "Unfailing love and faithfulness go before you"?
He is ahead of you. He has gone before you. You can trust in His way. It is a way paved in His unfailing love to you, paved in His faithfulness to you, paved with the righteousness that He has given you. It is a well lit road, paved with the flagstones of righteousness, unfailing love and faithfulness. It is a narrow road. But it is a sure road.
Dare to believe Him.
