Pride

Pride is trying to be greater than you are. Humility - by contrast - is the recognition of your limits.

Generally speaking, we assume our limits are far more extensive than what they are. We project our capacities to be greater than they are.

The realm beyond your limits - is an indefensible land. This is by pure definition, because it is beyond your limits.

This leads to one of the natural consequences of pride: You are left to defend the indefensible. This inherent contradiction produces the utmost stress.

Pride is trying to control the uncontrollable.

You want to be better than you are; and spend the rest of time hoping no one will expose you for existing well beyond your limits.

Jesus' gospel redraws and re-constitutes your borders. He perforates your pride and reveals the true nature of your limits. And then He dignifies you by loving you within your limits.

Humility is realising you don't have to go beyond your limits to receive love and acceptance. It is a hammer-blow to pride; but the access point to unimaginable love.
