Jesus was called the Christ. 'The Christ' was the anointed one, the anointed one who was prophesied about in the Old Testament. Anointed for what? Anointed to suffer. Anointed to suffer for the sake of other people.
Do we have a theology that can embrace the concept of being chosen or anointed to suffer for the sake of others? I, for one, want the anointing so that I might look good. It does not sit well with me that I might be anointed / chosen to suffer for the sake of others. How wrong is that attitude! What a privilege to be designated to suffer for the gospel.
