Happiness versus joy

Perhaps happiness is the purest form of joy.

It is common to think of happiness as a lesser form of joy. That it is superficial and based on fickle things. Whereas joy is deeper and firmer.

But what if happiness as an emotion is the purest form of joy? I am not sure I want happyless joy.

What if you are not finding joy in God if He doesn't make you feel happy?

What if happiness and joy are not inconsistent?

I have so often professed to have "deep joy" but feel no happiness. I have seen people look at me askance. It must be very deep, they seem to think. That joy of yours must be very deep. Because your face sure isn't happy.
