Forgiveness has always gripped me. Mostly because I am so bad at it. If I could be world-class at one thing, I think it would be at forgiveness.
What does forgiveness look like? What are the signs that it exists between two people? Thomas Watson provides a helpful framework to answer these questions - forgiving those who have wronged us includes:
1. Resisting inflicting revenge
2. Not returning evil for evil
3. Wishing the person well - in their presence as well as their absence
4. Grieving at their calamities
5. Seeking reconciliation, as far as it depends on you
6. Praying for their welfare and happiness, and
7. Coming to their aid in distress
If only I was this man.
