Consider the Dodo. The Dodo was a species of bird that is now extinct. It was wiped out by the early settlers in Southern Africa. They were killed for food. They were wiped out to the point that they could reproduce themselves as a race. The world will never ever see another Dodo ever again. Ever.
Consider the coelacanth. The coelacanth was thought to be an extinct species of fish. They found fossil remains of this fish, but there was no evidence that this fish was still alive. The coelacanth was presumed dead. However, in 1938 off the east coast of Africa they found not one, but two, species of coelacanth. It was not wiped out! It remained! It was not wiped out. The coelacanth came back in full force.
The gospel of Jesus says that He wipes out the effect of sin. Jesus makes the effect of sin, with regard to our salvation and our standing before God, absolutely extinct. Jesus wipes out the effect of sin as a species. The effect of sin, once we believe in Jesus, is wiped out and exterminated for all time - so that we can enjoy unhindered access to God! The extermination of the effect of sin is the greatest news in the world.
The effect of sin in a believers life is that it is as dead as a Dodo. It is a gospel of grace and freedom. Either Jesus wipes out sin, or He does not. It is either the one or the other. Like the Dodo, sin is wiped out. The extinction of sin through the blood of Jesus on a Cross is a death that we can celebrate and revel in.
