Gazing at Jesus

There is a picture in Acts 1 of the disciples gazing at Jesus as He ascends into heaven on the clouds. After He had ascended the angels told the disciples to stop staring at the empty sky and to set about the work of the church.

What a metaphor for the church! God uses those who have gazed upon a glorious King who has ascended to His throne in victory.

Forever the church must gaze at Jesus. Those who gaze will be inevitably useful to the King. I want our church to assemble around the person of Jesus and to continually gaze at Him. When we meet at a church the gaze must be on Jesus. We should all find our place gathered shoulder to shoulder around His throne.
