My view is that Jesus has done everything to save a soul. My view is that for a soul to be saved takes a sovereign act of God. My view is that God takes all the credit for each salvation. My view is that people still need to respond to all the work of God and that it is no sleight on God’s sovereignty that someone does not get saved because they decide to reject God’s offer of free salvation. My view is that Jesus has done it all, but the soul still needs to acknowledge guilt and receive the salvation. My view is that if the church does not pray and witness and preach the gospel, less people will be saved, yet whenever someone gets saved it is entirely the work of God.
I believe God’s world is real, that we should follow him and choose him. But yet God is so in control and so present that if it were not for him we would not be able to follow him and choose him. I believe God desires our company, our friendship, our relationship, our thoughts, our proximity. And I believe that what makes those concepts and commodities so precious is the fact that we exercise a choice towards God and decide to love him and obey him and glorify him and follow him—because He is God!
Humans are not obliged automatons. Humans have this ability to love God and follow him and enjoy him and walk with him. And that is what a Creator created. It is our humanity that God loves. Our humanity is proof of God's sovereignty, not a disruption of it.
