That night I flew out of South Africa. I had loaded my family up, packed up everything and was committed to being in Singapore. But there was no work pass. I remember feeling like I was flying off into the sunset in the most vulnerable position. I had no guarantee. I was emigrating to Singapore as if I was allowed to. It was the strangest thing taking off with the distinct possibility that I could be making the gravest mistake of all time.
