JP and I meet at the Steers in Cavendish. I am, I start to explain to him, about to meet with Thomo. We are going to discuss us leaving. What does he think?
JP's eyes swell and go red. He swallows hard. We spend our lives dreaming and plotting about a daring mission for God. But when the day comes we are sad. We are not sad because the day has come. We cannot explain why we are sad. Eternal things weigh strongly upon our souls; temporal things do not let us go. There is joy in the telling, but a gravity in the listening. Some times I think joy and sadness are the same thing. They can both make you cry and weep in equal measure. Some times you can be so sad that you are so happy for someone.
